IELTS Speaking Trials

Assalamualaikum.

Hey guys. So since I've already promised that I'd write about my Speaking Trials, so here you go.

Part 1:

What is the meaning of your name?

Do you think you are soft spoken? (Okay, long story short, this question was asked because I said that one of the reasons my mum chose this name is because that there's this person named Hanani she really adores and she is soft spoken.)

What makes you happy?

What makes you sad?

Part 2:

Describe a precious gift that you loved most.

Include in your answer:

what is it

who is it from

why is it precious to you

Part 3:

Do you think young people are happier than old people?

What do you think of comparing yourself with others?

What do you think about happiness between countries?

I think I was asked another question in Part 3 but I can't put my finger on what it is.

All in all, I felt quite confident, I felt really good about myself. Yeah sure, there were some fillers and I did feel nervous (who doesn't) but our examiner was really nice so I guess that made the nervousness disappeared. :)

I just hope I can be fluent during the real IELTS.

IELTS Speaking Mock Test

Assalamualaikum. Hiiiiiiiii everyoneeeeeeeee.

I know, I know, it's been a long time. What can I say, third sem so far has been so busy. T_T

To be honest, I just finished my IELTS Speaking Trials this week (and IELTS Speaking Mock Test last week). It was okayyyyyy I guess. I wouldn't say I did very well, it was okay, as it took some time for me to construct the sentences in my head lol. Haih.

For my Mock Test, since there are 24 of us in my class, doing one by one with our lecturer would take a lot of time. So our lecturer divided the class into half. Half became the examiner, and the other half of course the students. The procedure is kind of like speed dating (omg yes, we played speed dating in class during English LOL). And then we exchanged roles of course, that way everyone got to be both examiner and student.

So I became the examiner first. The 'students' had to wait outside before entering (just like the real IELTS because we'll have to enter from the outside). Miss Syazwani gave us a briefing on how to give marks to the 'students' and gave us the questions. Each and everyone of us got different questions. I read mine to make sure I understand the questions, because the student that I'll get might not understand some words and they would ask me, the examiner, of course. In Part 3 (IELTS Speaking has three parts), I noticed the word 'animal poaching'. I asked Miss and all she said was, "Well, hurry up and look for the meaning in your dictionary before I let them in". Turns out 'poaching' means illegal hunting. Pfft.

Long story short, I am a terrible examiner. Really, all I did was hearing what the 'student' said (I got Juwaidi as my student) and said, "Uh huh. Go on" and I think I smiled a lot? I don't know. I wasn't very helpful, that's for sure.

I didn't even write the comments in detail, and I didn't tell him which part he should improve. Sorry, Juwaidi. D:

These are the questions Juwaidi got (for you to practice, but these are only from what I remembered):

For Part 1:

Do you like pets?

Would you like to adopt a pet (or add more pets)?

Which do you prefer, cats or dogs?

For Part 2:

Describe an animal that you'd like to be.

Include in your answer:

what animal is it

why do you want to be that animal

where can you find it

Explain (okay, I couldn't remember what did the question asked for explanation. Sorry! But you get the idea.)

For Part 3:

What do you think about animal poaching?

Do you think animals that have been locked should be kept in captivity all their lives?

These are all I could remember. Aaaaaaaaaa sorry if I wasn't that helpful!

 

Next, I was the student. Again, I'd have to wait outside and this time I have to choose another person. I chose Paijak (his name is Faiz but people call him Paijak). I got questions about oceans in my Part 1 and that made me feel like T_________T.

Seriously? Oceans?

I've only been to the ocean like once or twice in my entire life so far and beaches aren't really my favourite spot AND YOU'RE ASKING ME QUESTIONS ABOUT OCEANS?

*heavy sigh* But I guess we don't always get what we want.

I only smiled when I heard he asked, "Do you like oceans?". I told him the truth, that I do not really like the oceans as I don't go there often. My next question, "Which ocean is your favourite?". To be honest, I felt like running away because I don't like the questions aahhhhhhhhh.

So pretty much all my Part 1 questions are related to oceans. My third question (and final for Part 1 if I'm not mistaken) was "Would you live by the ocean? Why or why not?" Pretty much lah, I don't really have a good memory.

For my Part 2:

Describe an interesting article that you have read.

In your answer include:

the title of the article

the name of the author

where it was published

what the article is about

Explain why do you think the article is interesting.

To be REALLY honest, I said to myself, 'Shoot' as soon as I read the first line. DAH LAH I ONLY HAVE ONE MINUTE TO WRITE MY NOTES WHATEVEN. I literally just hold the pencil and wrote nothing for a few seconds because I haven't read any interesting articles recentlyyyyyyyy. I couldn't even remember when was the last time I even read one, for God's sake. DAH LAH DIA NAK NAMA AUTHOR AND WHERE IT WAS PUBLISHED HAIH SABO JE.

So do you know what did I do?

I invented an article. Ha! Paijak wouldn't know. Miss Syazwani wouldn't know. Even my future examiner wouldn't know if I lied in my IELTS. Nobody in the whole world would know. Unless I tell them lah of course.

So I made it all up. I said that the title of the article is 'Eating Healthy' by Paula Anderson (because that was the only name that I could came up with). It was published in Reader's Digest. It's about how to eat healthy, tips on how to choose the best food etc bla bla bla. I related it with the Food Pyramid, I even said that the article contains the effects if we don't eat healthy. The reason why I find it interesting? I said because I don't eat that healthy, so I find the article really helpful for me as I need to take care of my skin, body bla bla bla.

AND I MANAGED TO SPEAK JUST UNDER TWO MINUTES YEASSSSSS.

Sambil cakap tu, dalam hati "Pandai juga rupanya aku ni menipu". LOL Paijak seemed impressed though. Wahahaha.

For my Part 3:

Do you think it is important for children to start reading at a young age?

At what age do you think children should start reading?

What types of reading materials do you think are suitable for young children?

Do you think that reading in the future will be different than reading now?

I can answer well for Part 3 because they're about READINGGGGG YAYYYYYY MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO. I related the questions mostly with my childhood, as my parents gave me books to read when I was really young.

Overall Paijak said I did really well, it's just that my grammar are all over the place lol and I'm not that fluent and there were a lot of fillers. I also didn't state the effects for the questions in Part 3. But oh well. That's okay for a first time.

Nak cerita pasal Trial IELTS sekali ni sebenarnya tapi biasalah I typed too much AND I'M SUPPOSED TO SEARCH MATERIALS FOR MY MPU FOLIO. Haih. Well, I guess next time then. Dah panjang sangat dah ni hahaha.
